The man responsible for smuggling 55 illegal immigrants into San Antonio earlier this week has been previously convicted of the same crime – and spent two years in prison for it.

The man in question, 36-year-old Gerardo Javier Carreon was charged for his most recent smuggling crime on Wednesday, June 13th after agents found him with 55 people inside a tractor trailer in San Antonio, Texas.

However, previous to the 55 smuggled immigrants, Carreon was convicted of multiple drug charges with intentions to distribute, illegal entry without inspection, possession of a firearm by a felon, and pleaded guilty to a charge of transporting and moving an undocumented alien into the US for private financial gain after he was found guiding two illegal aliens around a border checkpoint by border patrol agents, and later admitted to being paid for it.

He then served a 15 month sentence at a federal prison for the charges, was released under supervision, and was then sent back to prison for six more months after hitting an unattended vehicle, excessive use of alcohol, and failure to follow instructions from his probation officer, reported KSAT News.

A second alien smuggling case involving Carreon was also dismissed in 2008 after Carreon was pulled over with an undocumented immigrant in the car after being paid $200 to transport him to San Antonio.
