Truck parking was already scarce in the the town of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, but things took a turn for the worse after a popular location, used by many truck drivers, began turning them away
.
The Walmart Supercenter, located on 120 Frances Lane in Beaver Dam, recently installed signs prohibiting semi trucks and trailers from parking on their lot.
According to WiscNews, the store’s manager, Adam Zastrow, says the changes were made to protect the newly renovated parking lot.
Zastrow says the amount of semi trucks parking in the lot began to wear on the surface. “One of my worst mornings I had 27 trucks in the lot,” he said.
Zastrow also added that someone would do “really well” opening a truck stop with parking in Beaver Dam.
Currently, there are no public areas for truck drivers to park in town and many are forced to park illegally on road shoulders and off-ramps.
Truck driver Robert Olson summed up the situation by saying, “You can park illegal and hope no one bothers you or drive over your hours of service.”
