New York State Police (NYSP) are investigating after a dump truck crashed into a home in Fultonville on Tuesday morning.
Troopers responded to the crash at 7:31 a.m. on June 24, according to a NYSP news release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Merwin W. Wells, 63, was operating a 2025 Peterbilt dump truck eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 182.6 when he underwent a medical event.
Wells said that he suffered a coughing fit and lost consciousness.
The dump truck veered left and went through the median and the center guardrail, then crossed all of the westbound lanes of the New York State Thruway, and struck another guardrail.
The dump truck then crashed down a steep embankment, passed through a wooded area, and then crashed into a house located at 24 Washington Street in Fultonville.
NYSP said that the truck “destroyed” the rear main bedroom of the house.
A 51 year old man and his two sons were home at the time of the crash, but none of the residents were injured.
Wells was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Assisting agencies include the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the NYS Thruway Authority, and the Fonda-Fultonville Fire Department.
