A truck driver was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder after a traffic collision on Thursday afternoon. What he told police after the arrest is making headlines.
The incident happened on Thursday, at around 3:45 p.m., on westbound U.S. 60 in Seymour, Missouri.
According to police reports, a semi truck driven by 33-year-old Adam Housley rear-ended a pickup that was stopped at a red light on U.S 60 at Clinton Avenue. The impact sandwiched the pickup between Housley’s rig and another tractor trailer in front of it.
Two occupants inside the pickup, Tisha Briggs, 48, and Leo Walker, 47, were killed in the crash. The two semi truck drivers were not injured.
Witnesses say Housley did not slow down before the crash. “He never hit the brakes,” a witness said.
Local news station KY3.com reported that “Housley became combative and pushed a Seymour police officer at the scene.”
When troopers subdued the driver he told them “God told me to do it,” and “it’s my destiny.”
He reportedly told a second police officer that “God wants you to shoot me; God wants you to kill me.”
Troopers noted that Housley’s eyes were “glassy” and his pupils were dilated, but he passed a field sobriety test at the scene and also tested negative for alcohol.
“I noticed his speech to be slow and deliberate at times. I also noticed some of his responses were delayed as he would stare at me for a short amount of time before answering,” the police report reads.
After speaking to the driver, police determined that the crash was an intentional act, and not an accident as originally reported.
Housley was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is being held on $750,000 bond. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
