FMCSA Makes Operating E-Logs Easier, Well Sort Of.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recently clarified their stance on certain electronic log devices and applications, to help alleviate some of the hassles they may produce for drivers.

They changed their 2011 rules which required all electronic driving logs that did not connect directly with the trucks systems, such as mobile apps, to be printed and then signed in order to be considered valid.

According to FMCSA drivers now will be able to sign electronic log that have been manually entered, directly on the device with an electronic signature. If the app or device does not have this functionality, then a printed and signed version is still required.

One of the most popular digital log apps that support electronic signatures is KeepTruckin, which works for both iPhone and Android smart phone.
