The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a two commercial vehicle crash that occurred in Charlotte County on Wednesday.
Troopers say that the crash occurred on southbound I-75 at mile marker 174, near the Berkshire Street overpass.
FHP detailed the crash:
A crane (Vehicle 1) and a tractor-trailer hauling an empty flatbed (Vehicle 2) were both traveling in the outside lane when the crash occurred. The tractor-trailer was moving at a slower speed with its hazard lights activated.
Despite a clear line of sight, the crane failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of the flatbed trailer. The impact caused the crane to overturn, blocking all southbound lanes. Debris from the crash also led to a secondary collision.
No serious injuries were reported.
The crash led to an extended closure of southbound I-75.
