A dash cam clip showing the moment a truck driver was forced off the road to avoid a wrong-way driver was released this week.

The terrifying crash occurred at 1:15 p.m. in Muhlenberg Township, Pennsylvania on October 24th and the video was released shortly afterward.

In the clip, off-duty police Sgt. Joseph M. Brown follows wrong-way driver Christine Hockenberry as she travels the opposite direction along Route 222 when she approaches an oncoming semi-truck driven by 50-year-old John Kovach.

The motorist makes no attempt to move out of the lane, forcing the trucker to swerve off of the road and into the grassy median, crashing into a dividing wire fence and ripping open the trailer, throwing debris everywhere.

Sgt. Brown is then forced to the far right side of the road where he swerves to avoid another stopped vehicle before coming to a halt.

Luckily, Kovach only sustained only minor injuries in the accident. No other injuries were reported.

“The fact that no one was killed and no one was seriously injured is a testament to him [Kovach] intentionally risking his life to save everyone else’s life by doing the maneuver he did,” Brown said according to Berks and Beyond.

“The lady for sure would have been killed in a head-on, and a bunch of other drivers around it, too,” he continued.
