A trucker is being held without bond after threatening another driver with a handgun at a Love’s Travel stop Tuesday.
The incident occurred on July 17th Hagerstown, Maryland at the Love’s Travel Stop on Perini Avenue.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says that one of their deputies was called to the Love’s travel stop to investigate a report of a man threatening another man with a gun.
Trucker Melvin Leroy Billings III explained that he was waiting in line at the fuel pumps when another big rig cut him in line. Billings then left his truck to confront the man, 64-year-old Donald Arthur Divet, and the two began arguing.
Divet then revealed a .45 caliber pistol still in a cloth holster, telling Billings that he would “blow a ****ing hole” in him, reported Herald Mail Media.
Divet was pumping fuel when police arrived, and explained to the officers that, after the initial confrontation, Billings had approached his rig and banged on the door. Divet then told Billings to “back off,” but Billings did not, so Divet once again grabbed his gun.
“I got in the truck and grabbed the gun,” Divet explained.
“It was empty. … I didn’t point it at him.”
Divet was taken into custody by police and is now being held without bond on charges of first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and having a handgun in a vehicle – an act that is illegal in Maryland without a concealed carry permit.
