A Texas McDonald’s was seriously damaged by a rogue semi truck tire early Monday morning, prompting police to begin a search for the truck driver involved.

The incident occurred at around 2:50 a.m. in Iowa Park, Texas.

According to Texomas Homepage News, Officer Derek Vann was investigating the cause of a burglary alarm at a McDonald’s off of Highway 287 near Pacific Avenue when he noticed that a window and some walls along the west side of the building had been destroyed and a set of semi truck tires and rims were sitting nearby.

The wheels were still smoldering, and a small fire was burning inside the McDonald’s building, prompting Vann and his partner to use fire extinguishers they had with them in the patrol car as they contacted the fire department.

Following the investigation, Vann says that he believes the wheels came loose from a tractor trailer as it traveled along Highway 287. The wheel must have then rolled or bounced across the Chisum Travel Center parking lot nearby before crashing into the wall of the McDonald’s but detectives were unable to locate any marking or damage done to guardrails or the parking lot of the travel center to confirm this hypothesis.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding the incident or truck driver involved is urged to contact the Iowa Park Police Department at (940)-592-2181.
