A small bi-plane grazed the top of a moving semi truck in Wyoming recently after the bi-plane lost power to its engine.
The incident occurred on May 31st on Interstate 80 in Wyoming.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the small plane was on its way from Longmont, Colorado to Sky Park, Utah when “for reasons unknown,” the plane lost power. As the plane began to fall, the pilot attempted to land it on Interstate 80 near mile marker 8, but struck the top of a semi truck, damaging its sleeper berth on the way down.
The plane then struck a speed limit sign and crash landed on the side of the highway while the big rig, which was hauling pigs, came to a stop on the shoulder of the road.
Incredibly, no one was hurt in the bizarre crash, but the bi-plane was seriously damaged. The sleeper berth of the truck was also damaged, but the trailer loaded with pigs remained intact.
The incident has since been cleared, but the Federal Aviation Administration and National Safety board are looking into the incident.
