A retired army veteran rushed to the aid of a trucker in need after the driver crashed his rig in Arizona on Tuesday.

The accident happened on the afternoon of August 21st in Tucson, Arizona.

According to News 4 Tuscon, the semi truck was traveling along Interstate 10 west when the driver suddenly lost control and went crashing through a concrete wall around a roadside property.

Retired Army Staff Sergeant Chris Liby was driving on I-10 west at the same time and saw it all happen, so he immediately jumped into action.

Liby pulled over and ran to the scene of the wreck, where he immediately noticed something was seriously wrong with the driver.

“I noticed he [the trucker] wasn’t breathing… the cover [sic] of the truck was shoved into his throat, preventing him from breathing,” he said.

“I checked for a pulse, did not find a pulse…. That’s when he started taking a breath and that’s when I thought for sure it was his last breath… Then, 20 seconds later he took another breath. I kept yelling at him keep going buddy, keep going,” Liby continued.

Liby waited around seven minutes for paramedics to arrive and then assisted them in freeing one of his legs from beneath the crumpled dashboard.

“His left pupil was very small and very, very slow to react. I suspect he had a medical emergency while driving,” Liby added.

As of Wednesday evening, the driver was listed in serious condition and is still being held at the Banner University Medical Center. Details regarding his condition or what caused him to wreck are still not known.
