A truck driver was arrested Wednesday after admitting to firing a gun in order to intimidate a motorist, troopers say.
The incident happened on September 26th at around 1:54 p.m. in Rainier, Oregon.
Oregon State Police say that 45-year-old James John Nicholson was tailgating another vehicle before he fired two shots “into the air to scare the other driver.” Nicholson then pulled over near mile marker 64, where police met up with him.
Nicholson was cooperative with police and admitted to firing the 9 mm semiautomatic pistol into the air in a fit of “road rage,” though the actions of the other driver that led to the confrontation have not been made clear, reported The Chief News.
Nicholson was then taken into custody on felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon, as well as menacing, and reckless driving/ endangering. He has since been released.
“This is such an important reminder that you never know who is behind the wheel of the next vehicle. If you See Something Say Something call OSP to report a driving complaint on any Oregon highways,” the Oregon State Police wrote in a Facebook post following the incident.
