A flatbed trailer was twisted in half after attempting to clear a hump in the roadway earlier this week.

The accident happened on Monday, August 13th outside of Vevay, Indiana.

According to the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, 70-year-old truck driver Mike Neal was hauling a steel coil west on a bumpy State Road 156 when he attempted to drive over a hump in the roadway. As Neal was driving over the hump, the left side of the trailer hit the pavement and got stuck, shifting the steel coil and twisting the trailer almost in two.

The rig came to a stop with half its body tipped over on its side and the other half still upright, allowing the steel coil to slide off the trailer and land in the roadway, reported VeVay Newspapers.

Neal says that initially the rough road caused the trailer to bounce and, since he was going between 40 and 45 mph, the extra hump in the road was just too much for the trailer.

No one was hurt in the incident, and Neal even assisted officials in clearing the wreck from the roadway as the Indiana Department of Transportation worked to fix a large hole torn in the roadway during the wreck.

It is not clear if Neal was cited for the incident.
