A Michigan police department recently released footage of a van pulling out in front of a semi truck in snowy conditions, sending the rig barreling towards a police cruiser and forcing the officer to make a split second decision.
The video was posted on Friday, December 15th by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and was filmed on eastbound 14 Mile Road Northeast at Harvard Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In the clip, a light colored van can be seen pulling out in front of an oncoming semi truck, causing a collision and sending the big rig sliding across the roadway and into the path of the police cruiser. The officer then quickly drives off the road and into the snow, narrowly avoiding a serious accident.
Luckily, only minor injuries were reported in the incident.
“This is how quickly it can happen. In inclement weather, the conditions on the road can change in an instant,” wrote the Kent County Sheriff’s Office in the Facebook post.
“We don’t share this video because we want to discuss fault. We share it because it illustrates the importance of keeping our eyes on the road at all times, especially when conditions are poor,” the post continued.
