A truck driver suffered injuries to his hand Friday evening after a rock was thrown at his windshield, causing it to “explode,” police say.
The incident happened around midnight on October 12th in Pueblo, Colorado.
According to KKTV News, truck driver Rob Simmerman was driving down Cesar Chavez Boulevard near the bridge at Jerry Murphy Road when something suddenly came crashing through his windshield, smashing into his hand and ricocheting into his temple.
“All of a sudden, the windshield exploded. [It] sounded like a gunshot went off in my face… The windshield, I could see, had a large hole in it, and then I also felt a lot of pain in my right hand… I knew something was very wrong, but I didn’t have a good idea of what had happened,” Simmerman explained.
The trucker then pulled over and called 911 and when police responded, they discovered a “large, 6-inch diameter stone” inside the cab of his truck, eliminating the possibility of a gunshot and alerting police to the possibility that the stone had been thrown at Simmerman intentionally.
At present, police do not have any leads but Simmerman, who has an injury to his eye and may have a broken hand as a result of the incident, says that he has never experienced anything like it in his 12 years of trucking.
“This isn’t fun and games. It’s life and death… Could have been a different part of my body than a hand.”
The incident is still under investigation and police are asking for anyone with information to contact police at 719-553-2502 or to report a tip anonymously at 719-542-7867.
