Dash cam footage of an explosive wreck between a pickup and a semi truck has been released by the Utah Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened on Wednesday, July 26th on Highway 89/91 in Wellsville.

According to KUTV, a police officer was pursuing a Chevy pickup that had been called in for reckless driving south on Highway 89/91.

The pickup refused to pull over despite the officer’s attempts, say police. The pickup then swerved to the left into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a tractor trailer hauling sand.

The force of the impact caused a massive explosion, engulfing both the pickup and the semi truck. The driver of the tractor trailer also caught fire after his rig became engulfed.

26-year-old Marcos Torres, the driver of the pickup, was killed in the accident.

The semi truck driver, William Gray, managed to escape his burning vehicle while still on fire and had to be put out by a Utah Highway Patrol officer. He was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to the University of Utah hospital.

There were no other injuries reported in the crash.

Gray is a reserve police officer of the Rigby, Idaho police department.
