Rhode Island has announced the opening of a service allowing Commercial Driver’s License Holders to submit information to the Division of Motor Vehicles electronically.

The system was installed last year in the summer of 2017 but has only recently gone into effect.

In the past, truckers were forced to take time off the road to visit a DMV in order to submit their medical certifications but now, commercial driver’s license holders may utilize a new computer system to submit these certificates electronically, streamlining all services and saving driver’s time.

“The change is pro-business,” said Democratic Representative Robert Phillips, who sponsored the legislation making this new system possible while it was in the House, reported US News.

“Drivers will be able to check off this task quickly without missing a day on the road,” added Democratic Senator Roger Picard, the Senate sponsor of the legislation.

Anyone looking to send in their medical certifications can do so online here.
