A police officer came to the aid of a stranded trucker in Texas on Monday, saving him time and the cost of a tow.

The incident happened on August 13th in Hillsboro, Texas.

According to KWTX News, Police Corporal Dominique Anderson was making her usual rounds as a traffic officer along Interstate 35 near mile marker 367 when she saw a truck driver pulled over on the shoulder of the highway.

“I saw a semi-truck on the shoulder and the hood was up,” Anderson said.

“So I stopped and said ‘hey are you OK?”

The truck driver, Tomas Pizana, said that his truck was broke down, he was stranded, so Anderson gave him the number for a local heavy duty towing company and went on her way. However, as she was driving away, she had a better idea.

“As I was driving off I started thinking it might be expensive, so I pulled all the way back to him and I said ‘what’s wrong with it?’” she said.

Pizana explained that he believed he just needed to add some water, so Anderson invited him into her patrol car and took him to a nearby Love’s truck stop where the two were able to buy some. Unfortunately though, when they got back to the truck, the fix turned out to be a bit more complicated.

“We go back to his truck and he puts the water in and it keeps leaking out,” Anderson continued.

“I told him I’ll take you wherever you need to go so you can get your truck back on the road,” she said. So the two got back in the Patrol car and headed back to Love’s where the driver was able to purchase a new hose.

After Pizana installed the new hose, the truck started right up, and the two were able to go on their way, but not before Pizana requested one more thing of Anderson.

“I made sure his truck started and he said, ‘Hey can I take a picture of you because people are always dogging law enforcement and it think that’s wrong.’ So he said ‘I’m going to tag you on Facebook,’” and he did – posting the selfie to Facebook as a way to thank the officer for her kind actions.

“That’s why I joined because I like to help people,” Anderson said.

“Knowing that I helped him get where he needed to go and I helped him save money made me feel good because he was telling me about his family and that he was retired military. I told him I was glad for his service and he said ‘I’m glad for yours, too.’”
