A tractor trailer struck an overpass in New York on Thursday night, tipping the trailer onto its side.
The incident happened on May 3rd at approximately 9:00 p.m. in Islip Terrace, New York.
According to the East Islip Patch, the semi truck was traveling west on the Heckscher State Parkway when it struck the 11 foot 2 inch Manhattan Boulevard overpass, overturning the trailer and blocking the roadway.
The westbound lanes of the Heckscher State Parkway were shut down for several hours as crews worked to remove the flipped tractor trailer but the roadway has since been reopened.
This is the second semi truck to strike an overpass this week, as a Walmart semi truck experienced a similar mishap on the Meadowbrook State Parkway on Wednesday.
Commercial vehicles are generally not permitted on Long Island parkways. However, commercial vehicles making local deliveries are permitted on several Long Island Parkways, including Heckscher and Meadowbrook, south of Merrick Road/Montauk Highway.
