A study of traffic data has determined that Interstate 5 may be the best place in the United States for automated semi trucks to begin their runs.
The study, conducted by traffic data company INRIX, has determined that the stretch of I-5 from Vancouver, British Columbia, through Washington and Oregon and into northern California is likely the best stretch of highway on which to allow the first automated semi trucks to travel on their own due to its extensive length, low levels of traffic, and the high amount of freight being hauled along it.
The second highest rated highway for driverless trucks is thought to be Interstate 95 from Jacksonville, Florida to Miami, Florida, though it is a shorter route with more traffic congestion.
INRIX believes that driverless tractor trailers could cut costs for trucking companies and reduce the number of accidents involving big rigs.
