A FedEx step-van driver is preparing to compete for the national title of “safest driver in the industry,” in the coming weeks.
Aaron Snyder has been driving locally for FedEx in Warren, Ohio for the last 15 years, racking up 750,000 accident free miles in that time. Now, he’s looking to compete in the upcoming 2018 ATA National Truck Driving Championships & National Step Van Driving Championships, scheduled to take place at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio on August 15th through the 18th, reported WKBN News.
Snyder won the state driving competition earlier this year and will now compete in the three part national competition, which includes a written test on the industry, an obstacle driving course, and a timed pre-trip inspection during which the driver must find the 15 things that are wrong with the vehicle.
“They’ll take one of the tires on the inside, they’ll let the air out, they’ll take off a lug nut, they’ll crack a window, and you have six minutes to find all the defects, and they get pretty tricky with it,” Snyder said.
