FedEx has announced the launch of a safety review following the spread of a video showing a FedEx truck driver supposedly running a motorist off the road.
The video was filmed last Friday on Interstate 85 in Blacksburg, South Carolina but wasn’t posted to Facebook until Wednesday, June 20th.
In the clip, the FedEx driver can be seen signaling to move into the left lane, where a mini van is already traveling. The rig then moves into the left lane and the mini van swerves onto the shoulder to avoid a collision and speeds up to overtake the big rig.
The FedEx truck then moves back into the right lane and speeds up, eventually having to apply the brakes to avoid striking a sedan in front of it.
“He’s [the truck driver] got road rage for sure,” said a woman in the video.
“Yeah, he literally just ran him off the road,” said another.
The video has since been submitted to the South Carolina State Transport Police, who reviewed the tape and determined that the mini van was traveling in the “no zone” or blind spot of the semi truck, putting the motorist at fault, not the FedEx driver.
Still, FedEx has issued an official statement to WCNC News regarding the video and their plans for review:
“Safety is our top priority at FedEx Ground and we hold contracted service providers to maintaining the highest safety standards on all roadways. We are aware of this incident in the Charlotte area and are grateful that no injuries occurred. We are reviewing the circumstances behind this video and will take the appropriate steps to address this matter.”
