A record breaking semi truck convoy gathered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this week, in order to raise money for sick kids.
The 595 vehicle-strong Mother’s Day convoy began its drive at 1:30 p.m. on Monday down New Holland Avenue.
The collection of trucks from across the nation made a 29 mile trip to Ephrata and back as a way to raise money for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.
According to Ben Lee, regional director for Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley, truckers from 13 states volunteered for this year’s convoy and $300,000 of the $450,000 raised at the event was brought in by the parade of semis.
The money from this event provides 60-70% of the funds needed to grant wishes to sick children in the Susquehanna Valley.
Gregory Crawford Sr., a trucker from Elizabethtown, PA, raised over $3,000 for the charity prior to the event.
“It’s the one day of the year you can feel appreciated as a truck driver,” Crawford replied when asked about the convoy.
The company RoadPro also donated $20,000 to the cause.
This year’s event marked the 28th year of the annual Mother’s Day Convoy, and had a record amount of trucks participating.
