The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has announced the results of its May 3rd Surprise Brake Safety Day inspections, which took roughly 21% of the trucks inspected off the road.
The results were announced yesterday and revealed that of the 9,500 commercial vehicles inspected, 21% were put out of service for some type of safety violation.
That means that 1989 commercial vehicles were taken off the road in one day. Of the vehicles inspected, 12% were taken off the road for brake safety violations alone.
The CVSA says that brake violations make up the biggest portion of violations found and that Brake Safety Day is “aimed at keeping all motorists safe by reducing the amount of poorly maintained braking systems in use out on the road.”
Another Brake Safety Day is planned for September 7th and will be the second and final Brake Safety Day for 2017.
The September Brake Safety Day will include Level I and Level IV brake inspections, focusing on faulty brake components.
