The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced the date of their second ‘Brake Safety Day’ of the year.
The inspection event will occur on September 7th, 2017, and will focus on brake system violations in commercial vehicles.
In prior years, the CVSA’s brake safety event was a week-long inspection operation, that took place throughout North America. This year, however, it has been reduced to two one-day events, according to a CVSA press release.
The first ‘Brake Safety Day’ of the year was an unannounced operation held on May 3rd.
“This year’s Sept. 7 Brake Safety Day follows up on CVSA’s May 3, 2017, unannounced Brake Safety Day and replaces the seven-day Brake Safety Week campaign from previous years,” the organization explained.
Level I inspections, as well as level IV brake inspections, will be conducted on the upcoming Brake Safety Day. The braking systems of semi trucks will be inspected for faulty components including worn lining, pads, or rotors, missing or loose parts, and leaks.
Last year, almost 4,000 trucks were taken out-of-service for violations found during the 7-day inspection blitz.
The CVSA says the inspection event is an attempt at “reducing the number of crashes caused by poorly kept brakes.”
