Trucking Industry Tops $700 Billion In Revenue For The First Time Ever

The American Trucking Associations just released their annual industry report American Trucking Trends, which reported that the trucking industry generated $700.4 billion dollars last year, in 2014. It’s the first time the industry has ever topped the $700 billion mark.

ATA Chef Economist Bob Costello said the record setting revenue numbers were attributed to “Increases in freight, combined with continued tight capacity helped drive revenues and coupled with lower fuel prices”

Here are some other finds from the latest edition of American Trucking Trends.

In 2014, 68.8% of all domestic freight was transported by trucks, nearly 9.96 billion tons.

There are 3.4 million drivers, and 7 million people total, employed in the trucking sector.

Since deregulation, the amount of trucking companies has grown by 68 times, with more than 1.3 million registered carriers.

Commercial vehicles paid 16.5 billion in highway fees in 2013.

You can purchase the full American Trucking Trends report from the ATA website.

Costello also reported on some of the latest industry numbers and trends in this ATA video.
