A truck driver died as a result of a freak accident when he was run over by his own truck.
Action News Jax reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday around 8 p.m. at the I-75 rest stop at the 412 mile marker in Columbia County, Florida.
Officials identified the driver as 45-year-old Deivys Viamonte of Hialeah. He was transporting vehicles at the time of the incident.
According to a news release, one of the driver’s brakes had lost air pressure, causing it to lock up. Viamonte pulled over at a rest stop, then went under his 2006 Peterbilt semi truck to work on the brake system.
That’s when his truck rolled backward and crushed the trucker. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The rest stop was shut down pending an investigation.
