A landslide damaged multiple tractor trailers and closed a portion of Interstate 70 in Colorado on Monday evening.
At least two semi trucks were struck by “smart-car-sized boulders” according to Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman, Amy Ford.
A 24-mile stretch of Interstate 70 is closed in both directions, between mile markers 116 to 140, from Glenwood Springs to Gypsum.
Colorado DOT posted the following warning.
The closure was put into effect on Monday evening, and was still active as of 9:19 AM CST on Tuesday. There is no estimated reopening time, however reports say it’s unlikely that the road will be reopened on Tuesday.
The large boulders will have to be blasted with explosives before being hauled off on trucks.
