Gun Pointed at Truck Driver Outside Company Terminal

A truck driver was threatened with a firearm by a man outside a Swift terminal earlier this week.

It happened at 6:35 pm Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 on Route 72 in Union Township, Pennsylvania.

According to Penn Live, the 51-year-old female truck driver from North Carolina had just left the Swift terminal when she noticed a Ford F-150 behind her, honking its horn. The Ford then crossed the double yellow lines and passed the tractor trailer, stopping in the road so that the rig could not get around it.

The Ford driver was noticeably upset so the trucker rolled down her window to hear what the man was saying, “the next thing I know he’s waving this big gun at me,” she stated. “[I was] scared as hell.”

Robert Mays Jr., the driver of the pickup, admitted to pointing a gun at the trucker. Mays claims the trucker gave him “the middle finger” after cutting him off, leading Mays to wield the firearm. There were no live rounds in the gun’s chamber, but a magazine with eight live rounds had been inserted. Mays did not possess the correct permits to be legally carrying a firearm.

Empty Miller Lite cans were found on the passenger side floorboard, as well as an opened case of Miller Lite behind the front seat. Police recorded Mays’ blood alcohol level at .246 percent.

Charged with DUI, simple assault, harassment, terroristic threats, possessing instruments of a crime, carrying a firearm without a license, and disorderly conduct, Mays was jailed on a bail of $10,000. He has since been freed.

No injuries have been reported.
