Georgia Will Spend $2 Billion Dollars To Build Truck-Only Lanes On Interstate 75

Georgia has a plan to easy up on traffic congestion on one of the state’s busiest highways — by giving semi trucks their own designated lanes.

The state plans to build two lanes limited only to trucks along a popular freight corridor south of Atlanta. According to Trucks.com, the lanes will encompass a 38 mile stretch on I-75.

The trucking industry notes that in the most traffic congested sections, these lanes are badly needed. Reportedly, The American Transport Research Institute estimates that traffic congestion costs the trucking industry about $50 billion a year.

eeeeeeGeorgia is the first state to attempt such a plan without the use of tolling or public-private highway building partnerships to pay for the truck-only lanes.

This will be the largest truck-only project in the country and will amount to $2 billion. It is expected to open in 2030, and at that time, additional truck-only lanes in the opposite direction may be added.
