No one was injured after a blown SUV tire caused a chain reaction crash involving two semi trucks in Indiana on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on July 24th at around 5:50 p.m. in Gary, Indiana.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, a 1998 Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on Interstate 80/94 just a mile east of the Broadway exit when the vehicle lost its right rear tire, which rolled into an adjacent lane and struck a 2015 Lexus traveling in the left middle lane.
An oncoming 2001 Freightliner then swerved to avoid the tire but was struck by it anyway, jackknifing and colliding with a second big rig.
The 52-year-old unnamed driver of the 2001 Freightliner, along with the 50-year-old unnamed man driving the second tractor trailer, were both transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.
The 39-year-old man driving the SUV and the 62-year-old-woman driving the Lexus were unhurt in the incident.
Three lanes of westbound I-80/94 were shut down for over an hour as crews worked to clear the accident, but the lanes have since been reopened and the accident, cleared.
