In Detroit, Michigan, a woman who died after crashing into a stopped semi may have been distracted while driving, according to new reports.
Michigan State Police say that the 67-year-old woman was suspected to be using her cell phone when she crashed into the truck on I-75.
Police explained in a statement:
“Based on information obtained during the initial investigation, it appears she may have been distracted by her cellphone.”
Click on Detriot reported that on Thursday, around 7:45 p.m., the semi truck was stopped in the right northbound lane near Clark Street, waiting to merge onto the Ambassador Bridge.
Trucks often stop in this lane in order to wait in line to cross over into Canada.
The distracted woman hit the truck’s trailer, forcing her 2007 Chevy Impala to become wedged underneath it.
She was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital but later died. No other injuries were reported.
Northbound I-75 was closed for two hours while officials investigated the scene and has since reopened.
