Trooper tells motorists the truth about merging onto the highway

A Colorado State Patrol Trooper took to Facebook recently to answer a basic question asked by a shocking number of motorists – how to properly merge onto the highway.

The video was posted by Trooper Lewis last month and has since gained over 500,000 views.

“This is a question we’ve been getting for weeks and months now… “ Trooper Lewis says as the clip opens.

“Really thought it was basic information that everyone knew how to do and yet you’re still asking… How to merge,” he continues.

“The merge lanes were designed for you to speed up to enter the highway… So it’s your responsibility to get on the highway safely. It is NOT the responsibility of the people already on the highway…” Lewis explains.

“There ya go. Now you’re up to speed with 15-and-a-half-year-old drivers who are learning to do it at the same time…” Lewis said.

The video has left many people with their own comments for other drivers on the roads.

“Oh my God!!! Oh my God!! Oh my God!! a Colorado State patrolman telling you people how to use a merge lane thank you sir thank you so much!!!” wrote Facebook user and truck driver Jack D. Geiser.

“Great job in explaining, it’s amazing how many people out there feel that it is the other people’s responsibility to move over for you,” added another.
