The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a large Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) spill that occurred as a result of a crash in Butte County this week.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on January 19, 2026.

According to CHP’s Chico Division, a three-axle commercial truck and a pick-up collided on Book Farm Road near Durham-Dayton Highway.
Action News Now reported that approximately 1,000 gallons of DEF spilled as a result of the crash. The outlet said that the CMV overturned on a sharp curve and that it was then struck by the pickup traveling in the opposite direction.

The pickup driver suffered minor injuries.
CHP said that the DEF spill required a hazmat response.
