A teenage motorist faces several charges in the wake of a crash with semi trucks in Campbell County, Wyoming.
At 8:20 p.m. on March 8, the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) responded to WY 59 at mile marker 84 for a reported crash involving three vehicles.
Troopers said that Trystin Smith, 18, of Gillette, was driving a Chevrolet Impala north in the southbound lane of the highway while trying to pass three other vehicles in a no-passing zone.
During the pass attempt, the Impala was struck “in an offset head-on fashion” by a semi truck.
This collision sent the Impala back into the northbound lane, where it was hit again by a northbound semi truck.

Responding troopers found four teenagers inside the crashed Impala, as well as alcohol in the vehicle.
Two of the teenagers were hospitalized for minor injuries.
Smith was charged with DUI and cited for Careless Driving, Driving Under Suspension (DUS), Minor in Possession of Alcohol, and for not wearing his seatbelt.
“Safe driving starts outside the car with good decision making. This crash involved highway speeds, alcohol, and minors in possession of alcohol – and it could have been much, much worse than it was. The Wyoming Highway Patrol implores all drivers to never drink and drive and always buckle up,” WHP said.
