Chain-reaction crash leaves five injured

Five people were hurt on Tuesday in a chain reaction crash involving four passenger cars and a semi truck.

The accident occurred on October 30th at around 11:00 a.m. in Jones County, Georgia.

According to The Telegraph, traffic on Highway 49 was backed up due to bridge construction and a flagger was directing traffic. A line of cars was stopped waiting for their turn when a semi truck coming up the hill was unable to stop in time and crashed into one of the cars, causing a chain reaction crash involving a total of five vehicles.

“I heard a huge crash behind me and then suddenly I got hit and I just remember the semi truck blowing past me and into the ditch. I didn’t know what happened. It was one of those things that happened so fast,” said Jourdan Eich, a motorist involved in the crash who helped pull an older couple from their pickup, which was seriously damaged in the wreck.

A total of five people were transported to the hospital, four with non-life-threatening injuries and one in critical condition. It is not clear whether the truck driver was one of those injured in the accident.

Traffic was backed up on Highway 49 due to the wreck and drivers were advised to avoid the area until around 1:00 p.m. that afternoon.
