A 75-foot-long Peterbilt BBQ pit is being used to feed Hurricane Harvey evacuees and first responders at the NRG Center in downtown Houston.
Several local businesses are sponsoring the event, with hopes of serving as many as 50,000 meals to those in need.
The truck’s owners, Kimberly King and Terry Folsom of Brenham, Texas, will be grilling on the massive vehicle, along with four other full-time chefs from Florida and Chicago, who are volunteering their time for the charity event.
The BBQ Pit trailer weighs an approximate 80,000 pounds, has 24-doors, and can cook 8,000 pounds of meat at one time. It was built by ‘BBQ Pits by Klose’ in Cypress, Texas.
Refrigerated tractor trailers will also arrive at the NRG center to supply meat donated by Sysco Foods of Central Florida, Gibson’s Restaurants, and Halpern’s Steak and Seafood, Joyce Farms, and Harvest Meat Company, all from central Florida.
