A 19-year-old driver was killed on Friday after failing to stop at a stop sign and driving into a tractor trailer at an intersection in Batavia, New York.
The accident happened around noon, at the intersection of Wilkinson Road and Route 33.
According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, the 19-year-old driver was traveling north on Wilkinson Road in a black Dodge Neon when she approached a stop sign. The motorist failed to yield for a semi truck that was traveling east on Route 33 and struck the rear axle of the tractor trailer.
The impact caused significant damage to the car and resulted in the death of the motorist at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured in the accident.
Investigators say they aren’t sure why the motorist failed to stop at the stop sign, but did say that there were skid marks before the intersection.
The investigation is ongoing.
