Police say a motorist in North Carolina pulled in front of a semi truck on Thursday morning, causing a crash that killed her and her young daughter.
It happened on September 28th at approximately 8:15 a.m. in Columbus County, North Carolina.
According to WECT, the woman, 30-year-old Rebecca Roberts, was driving with her two children on westbound NC 11, when “she pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer that was traveling north on NC 87.”
The big rig collided with the driver’s side of the car, sending the vehicle into a nearby ditch.
Roberts and her 8-year-old daughter were killed in the accident. Roberts’ 7-year-old son was airlifted to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
This is not the first time a deadly accident has occurred at this location according to Acme Delco-Riegelwood Fire Department Chief Steve Camlin.
“When that little girl passed away and left us, could a stoplight have changed her life?” Camlin asked.
“We need something done,” continued Melody Wagner, who lives close to the intersection.
“How many more people have to die out here before they will do something? It is devastating. You don’t understand. When you sit there holding somebody and they are dying in your arms, it is bad. It is sad.”
A North Carolina Department of Transportation representative said the state plans to add bridges and ramps to the intersection, but the construction is still several years away.
