The woman who crashed into the back of a tractor trailer, killing her passenger, has been arrested and faces a decade in prison for her actions.

The accident happened back on December 7th, 2016, in Tuscumbia, Alabama on Alabama 184.

20-year-old Alexas Breanna Clayton was driving her SUV west on 184 when she approached a tractor trailer stopped at a railroad crossing.

The truck, hauling a lowboy trailer carrying a track hoe, was stopped at the crossing waiting for a train to pass.

All the warning lights and sounds of the crossing were activated.

Clayton slammed into the back of the tractor trailer, forcing the radiator and engine of the SUV into the front seat of her vehicle.

The passenger of the SUV, 22-year-old Angelica Deshaun Robinson, was seriously injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where she died of her injuries.

Clayton was seriously injured in the crash as well and was flown to a hospital for care where she underwent surgery.

Three dogs were also rescued from the wrecked SUV. The dogs were uninjured and were taken to the local animal shelter for care.

The controlled substance Buprenorphine, an opioid known as Subutex, was found in Clayton’s possession at the time of the incident.

On Wednesday, May 31st, Alexas Breanna Clayton was arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, the Times Daily reported. She was released from jail on bail of $5000.

Clayton’s indictment accuses her of being responsible for Robinson’s death by “negligently operating a vehicle by speeding and failing to stop at a railroad crossing.”

Clayton could be facing up to one year in prison for criminally negligent homicide and up to 10 years in prison for possession of a controlled substance.

Clayton is scheduled to appear in court in Colbert County, Alabama later this month.
