Over the weekend holiday in Dallas, Texas, three Texas Department of Transportation electronic road signs were hacked.

These signs typically display phrases such as “Exit Closed” or “Lanes Shift Ahead.” But after someone decided to alter them, they now read:

“Bernie for President”

NBCDFW

And

“Donald Trump is a Shape-Shifting Lizard”

NBCDFW

The signs were displayed with the hacked messages during the Tuesday morning commute.

According to NBCDFW, all of the altered signs were located in west Dallas. The Trump sign was visible to drivers headed west on I-30 approaching Cockrell Hill Road Exit, and the Bernie sign was situated near Westmoreland Road beneath I-30.

Another sign displaying “Work Is Canceled-Go Back Home” was found on Westmoreland, north of I-30.

Officials reported that the signs belong to a contractor and were believed to have been turned off and locked before Memorial day weekend.

TxDot spokesman Ryan LaFontaine raised concerns about this hacker’s bold move and mentioned that the signs cannot be changed remotely and must be altered manually at the sign’s control panels.

TxDOT crews worked to shut off the sings before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
