Three dozen pigs were spilled onto the interstate Friday after the semi truck hauling them collided with a pickup truck, overturning the trailer.
The accident happened at around noon on October 19th in Urbana, Illinois.
According to The News-Gazette, motorist Scott Davis was driving his pickup west on Interstate 74 near Lincoln Avenue when a deer ran out in front of him. Davis then hit the brakes in an attempt to avoid the deer, which caused the semi truck traveling behind him to strike the back of the pickup, sending it spinning across the highway and onto the left shoulder as the big rig jackknifed and overturned.
Approximately 36 pigs were freed from the trailer in the wreck but officials were able to contain them in a nearby ditch as Davis and 36-year-old trucker Trevar Fischer were transported to a nearby hospital.
As of Sunday at 3:51 p.m., Davis was described as being in serious condition and Fischer’s injuries were described as “non-life-threatening.”
No citations have been issued as a result of the wreck.
