Earlier this week, a $57,000 ticket was issued to Bay Crane Northeast, the trucking company in charge of the 560,000 pound super load that was stuck on the side of the road in Warwick, Rhode Island for days.

Last month, Bay Crane Northeast started hauling the massive load on Interstate 95 before their permit requests were fully approved.

Officials were concerned about the structural stability of several bridges on the planned route and pulled the unauthorized load over, leaving the truck and 560,000 pound generator on the side of the road for days while officials tried to find a safe route for the excessively heavy truck to travel.

According to WPRI, the truck was moved to a nearby Park and Ride while the Rhode Island Department of Transportation found a safe route for the oversized load to make it to Medway, Massachusetts.

The nearly $60,000 ticket may be the largest ever issued for a motor vehicle violation in Rhode Island, say state police.

Before the truck was allowed to set off again, Bay Crane Northeast was ordered to take out a $25 million insurance policy that listed RIDOT as a co-insured party, and to reimburse RIDOT $60,000 for various expenses that the state incurred due to the unusual incident.

That means that Bay Crane Northeast is slated to pay $117,000 to the state of Rhode Island for their unapproved haul.

Bay Crane Northeast has been summoned to the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal on August 31st, where it will have the opportunity to contest the $57,000 ticket.
