A tractor trailer overturned in Indiana on Monday after the driver says he briefly took his eyes from the road.
The accident happened on November 20th at approximately 2p.m. in Rush County, Indiana.
According to the Rushville Republican, a flat bed tractor trailer was driving north on the 2500 block of West State Road 244 when the driver says he “momentarily took his eyes off the road.” When he looked up, his rig was leaving the roadway and entering a steep embankment. The driver managed to steer back towards the road, keeping the semi upright for about 50 more yards before striking a utility pole and overturning.
The impact left the trailer stretched across the roadway and ruptured one of its diesel tanks, spilling fuel onto the road.
The unidentified trucker was treated on scene by medical personnel but refused further treatment and was released.
A portion of SR 144 was shut down west of State Road 3 for nearly 3 hours as crews worked to clear the debris from the roadway. It has since reopened.
