A truck driver says he accidentally released his truck’s parking brakes, causing the rig to roll into a ditch and overturn while he was in the sleeper berth.

The incident occurred on the evening of January 16th along Interstate 5 outside of Yreka, California.

According to KYVL, the 53-year-old unidentified truck driver claims that he set the brakes of his truck so that he could access the sleeper berth, but somehow managed to unlock them as he was climbing into the back.

While he was in the sleeper, the truck rolled down a nearby embankment, overturning and shattering its load of glass bottles.

Luckily, the truck driver was not injured in the incident and no citations have been issued.

Cleanup of several tons of glass bottles continued into Wednesday afternoon as crews worked to remove the broken glass using shovels. None of the bottles were salvageable, but most can be recycled.

As of 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, cleanup was still underway.
