A trucker’s routine stop quickly turned into a rescue mission after she noticed a sealed container that was moving on the side of the interstate.
The truck driver, whose name has not been revealed, was traveling on I-90 through Lincoln County, Washington on November 14th when she decided to make a stop to stretch her legs.
According to local KXLY, the driver pulled off of I-90 at the Fish Trap exit and got out of the cab, walking a short distance around the rig to get her blood flowing.
That’s when she noticed something unusual – a sealed plastic storage bin was sitting alongside I-90, and it appeared to be moving all on its own.
The truck driver approached the bin and popped open the sealed lid to reveal a small black and white puppy in a pool of water, food, urine, and feces. The trucker knew she couldn’t just leave the small pup there, so she picked up the box, placed it in her truck, and took the puppy to the nearest animal shelter.
Upon the puppy’s arrival, animal shelter staff were horrified at his living conditions, and praised the truck driver for bringing the young pup in.
“Food, feces, urine and water were all mixed together in a soupy puddle” said Special Programs Manager at SCRAPS animal shelter, Janet Dixon.
The black and white puppy was quickly given a bath, medical attention, and a name: Charley.

Since being cleaned up, Charley, a boxer, border collie mix, is being set up with a foster home, where he will be socialized until he is ready for one of the 1000s of adopters that have already inquired about taking him home.
“I’m very grateful for this truck driver because if she was not alert and aware and looked around… he was sealed inside of that airtight tote,” said Dixon.
“Had the weather taken a turn, (Charley) could have frozen to death.”
Charley now has a chance at a forever home thanks to the compassionate trucker who saved him from a potentially gruesome fate.
