A European truck driver captured footage of what he believed to be an attempted hijacking by a group of immigrants attempting to illegally cross into England.
The footage was captured by truck driver Soroiu Sorin near the Calais Ferry Terminal in France as he was on his way to Manchester, England.
In the clip, the trucker drives up on several concrete blocks arranged in a line across the dark roadway. Several people can be seen standing on the side of the road, waving and wielding flares, but Sorin knew better than to stop.
Immigrants have been attempting to hijack big rigs as a way to enter England illegally for the last few years, and because of the lack of police presence in the nearby Calais, France, Sorin had a feeling things could be bad for him if he stopped.
Sorin then plows through the concrete blocks, driving over the chunks in an attempt to get away from the potential hijackers as quickly as possible.
“I reckon they were trying to cross into the UK and wanted to use my truck,” said Sorin.
“I was so scared. I just wanted to drive away from there as quickly as I could because there were no police there,” Sorin continued.
“There were concrete bricks that they’d laid down. I was worried they were going to damage the oil tank underneath or damage the tires… I thought they might have been trying to steal things from me – I had my tablet, my phone and money with me in the cab… I just didn’t want to stop. That was the main thing. I knew if I stopped they might try to steal my truck.”
Sorin’s bumper was damaged as he plowed through the concrete, but he managed to escape the potential disaster unhurt, and with all of his possessions in tact.
Sorin’s dash cam footage can be seen below.
