When truck driver Chris Price collapsed at a Flying J Truck Stop in Kansas City, Missouri, his co-pilot and long time companion, a pit bull named Coco, was taken to an animal shelter nearly 500 miles away from his home.
Due for an extended stay in the hospital, Price didn’t know when, or if, he’d ever see his dog again.
Thankfully, Coco was taken to a great no-kill shelter, The Kansas City Pet Project, that went out of their way to make sure that owner and pooch would not be separated for long.
They arranged for Coco to be moved to a dog boarding facility near the hospital where Price was held month and organized several hospital visits so the truck driver and his pal could be together again.
When Price was finally well enough to leave the hospital, he was transported via ambulance and shelter workers even convinced the hospital to allow Coco to ride with him.
“I’ve had her for years. We’ve been through all kids of snowstorms, heat; letting her chase rabbits in the desert…that’s the kind of life we lead.” Price told the Huffington Post.
Now the two are back at home, together again. Price is continuing to recover and plans to get behind the wheel of a rig again with his co-driver, when he’s fully recovered, just like old times.
