A truck driver was killed after losing control of his rig and swerving off of an overpass on the Ohio-Indiana border.

It happened on Wednesday, September 6th at approximately 4:50 a.m. on the Ohio side of the state line near Antwerp, Ohio.

According to WANE, a semi truck was traveling east on U.S. 24 at County Road 11  when the driver lost control and swerved off the road. The semi truck then fell off an overpass and crashed onto County Road 11 below.

The truck, which was hauling car parts, caught fire on impact and left parts scattered across the road.

The driver, 55-year-old George Weiler, was killed in the accident, reported the Crescent News.

Crews are currently working at repairing the damaged guardrail along the overpass.

As of noon on Wednesday, U.S. 24 is shut down in both directions and is expected to remain closed through the rest of the afternoon.

Traffic is being redirected through State Road 101.
