A trucker was found dead in his rig alongside a highway in Iowa on Tuesday morning.

The discovery happened on January 2nd at approximately 7:26 a.m. in Marion County, Iowa.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a motorist traveling along the 1300 block of County Highway G28 (near Cordova Park) saw a semi truck veer off road and come to a stop in a roadside ditch, prompting the motorist to contact police.

When officers arrived, 48-year-old truck driver Frederick William Brandt III was found unresponsive in the cab of his truck, and was later pronounced dead on scene, reported KRLS News.

Medical examiners are still investigating the cause of Brandt’s death. Although it has not yet been confirmed, authorities believe the driver may have suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel.

The scene has since been cleared.
